Lake Norman and Charlotte flooring customers can take simple steps to prevent scratches or damage to their hardwood flooring and other flooring products including:

• Use throw rugs at entries, exits, and other high traffic areas to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked onto the flooring
• Place felt pads on the legs and feet of all furniture
• Do not walk on your hardwood flooring with high heels or other shoes with sharp edges
• Never slide furniture across the flooring
• In kitchens, use area rugs at high spill locations such as the sink, stove, and refrigerator
• Wipe up spills promptly
• Move area rugs occasionally to avoid uneven appearance from sun exposure
• Sweep or vacuum under rugs regularly to prevent scratches caused by dirt and debris trapped under the rug. Never use the beater bar of the vacuum cleaner on your hardwood flooring and ensure that the wheels of the vacuum do not scratch the finish.
• Trim pet nails often and keep their paws clean.
• Never clean your hardwood flooring with oil soaps, harsh abrasives, vinegar, ammonia, silicone, polishes, dishwashing detergent, bleach, or any products containing oil or wax. These products may leave a residue, dull the finish, or create problems later on down the road if you want to refinish the flooring.
