How do I clean my hardwood flooring?

There are many hardwood flooring cleaning products available to Lake Norman and Charlotte flooring customers which can make the process of cleaning wood flooring a little confusing. Many cleaning product companies boast that their product is the best for cleaning hardwood flooring but beware of products that contain oil or wax. Just because the product claims that it is safe for wood flooring does not mean that it won't damage the flooring finish.

Lake Norman and Charlotte flooring customers should consider the following tips when cleaning their hardwood flooring:

• Sweep or vacuum your hardwood flooring regularly with a soft attachment to prevent build up of debris that may scratch the flooring. Be sure not to use the beater bar of the vacuum and ensure that the wheels of the vacuum do not scratch the finish.
• Never wet mop, damp mop, or apply water to your hardwood flooring. Apply an approved cleaner safe for urethane finishes directly to a dry terry cloth mop to clean your hardwood flooring.
• Do not use a wet-jet swiffer or steam mop to clean your wood flooring.
• To remove spots or stains, apply an approved cleaner safe for urethane finishes to a dry cloth and wipe the spot gently.
• Never use scouring or steel wool pads to clean the flooring.
• Do not use the following: oil soaps (even if they advertise that it is okay for hardwood flooring), vinegar, ammonia, silicone, polishes, dishwashing detergent, bleach, or any products containing oil or wax. These products may leave a residue, dull the finish, or create problems later on down the road if you want to refinish the flooring.
• Use a terry cloth to dry your hardwood flooring after cleaning.
